She received
a Bachelor of Arts from Brigham Young University and a Master of Arts from the
University of Utah, also completing her Ph.D. course work there. While studying, she
taught on assistantship and fellowship five and one-half years and was one of three
fellowship winners of the Clarice Short Teaching Award her first year as a fellow.

Waking Up at Rowland Hall (2025) is a collection of poems Ms. Burgoyne gathered over a thirty-year period, excluding poems written before graduate school. The title poem
came to her in the middle of the night. She composed it the next morning and then checked her high school texts for the readings and art which inspired the poem. She has fond memories of her Alma Mater because she learned so much in so little time. This collection is, in part, a tribute to the marvelous education she acquired there. The collection also includes sections paying tribute to nature, icon influences, academic studies, her cats, and the people who have been most important to her.

Her other publications include Edward Bailey Harding 1919-1979 (2022), Which Way Is Paradise? (2017), and Into the Okavango: The Africa Poems and Photographs (2005). She has also published several chapters in books, including Brigham Young’s Homes (2002) and Worth their Salt, Too (2000). Other publications include magazine articles, principally for Utah Holiday (1987-1992), and with her husband, professional articles in medicine and psychiatry, including the Western Journal of Medicine (1991). Their most successful collaboration is a study on Shakespeare and Genetics entitled Shakespeare and the Genetics of Being in World Psychiatric Congress (1989). She has written a novel, Familiar Strangers, which remains unpublished.

Ms. Burgoyne’s Africa book won or finalized in several national book competitions, including Fresh Voices, ForeWord Magazine’s Book of the Year Awards, and USA Book News. Ms. Burgoyne is the recipient of a Governor’s Media Award for reporting on women’s issues and the Utah Psychiatric Association’s Annual Media Award for promoting public awareness of mental health issues.

Currently, Ms. Burgoyne serves as president of her small, independent publishing company, Burgoyne and Burgoyne, Publishers, founded in 2004, and dedicated to
producing art (illustrated) and nature (photography) books. She is married to Robert H.
